malaise, the DJ project of Sieme Malais, is a DJ and music selector from Leuven, Belgium. His sound moves through minimal house, deep house, garage, hard house, breakbeat and UK-influenced 140 sounds, blending different corners of underground club music into energetic, deep and groove-driven sets.

Music has always played a central role in his life. Growing up with a father who produced music, Sieme was introduced to sound and creativity from a young age. At twelve, he got his first DJ deck, and what started as curiosity quickly grew into a lasting obsession. Now, after more than ten years behind the decks, malaise has developed a sound built on instinct, energy and storytelling.

Rather than staying inside one genre, malaise moves between different sounds depending on the moment, the room and the crowd. Whether he is opening the night with deeper grooves or pushing the energy later on, his sets are shaped as a journey. The goal is not only to make people dance, but to take them somewhere — through tension, release, unexpected turns and tracks that stay in your head long after the night is over.

Always digging for new and underground music, malaise is driven by the search for tracks that are not yet known to the wider public. His selections are influenced by artists such as Soul Mass Transit System, Interplanetary Criminal, Silva Bumpa, Yo Speed and Sidney Charles, combining UK energy with house-rooted grooves and a strong sense of flow.

For him, a good dancefloor is built around energy, connection and freedom. In a scene that is often shaped by social media and quick hype, malaise believes in bringing the focus back to the music and the people in front of it. A set should create a space where people can disconnect, forget everything for a moment and fully lose themselves in sound.

Beyond DJing, Sieme is co-founder of Lost People, an emerging Leuven-based collective that aims to bring the house scene back to life through club nights and carefully curated events. He also holds a residency at Café Apéro, where he hosts malaise invites friends, a concept built around intimate nights, B2B energy and underground selections. Over the years, he has shared the booth with artists such as Kleinefrigo, Arto, Vrolex and Kastaar.
