When coming to Mekitburn, you will not find a festival but rather stumble upon something called a 'cultival'. Our goal is to create an open & free space where artists of all kinds, the audience & organizers can come together, submerge themselves in an experience of music, art & social interaction and let their imagination run free! While doing this, we constantly try to move away from the commercial & pop-culture and coast along with the flow of the underground. We believe one of the most important things to make this happen are strong ties with very local & not so local communities and cultures of all sorts.

Instead of presenting you an endless text containing everything we stand & aim for, here are some of the key features that make Mekitburn what it is today:

1. Making people, organizations, communities & cultures get together and merge with each-other is what we do and we believe it is the spine of our 2 day artistic extravaganza. Promoting & focussing on the movements that we believe deserve more attention and making our audience interact with each-other and their surroundings is our main goal here.

2. Looking for what's new within genres and sub-genres and working together with a lot of Belgian artists gives us the character and charm we are known for. We want to offer them a moment in the spotlight, give them a chance to expand their own networks and share the stage with internationally renowned artists.

3. We try our best every year to make our festival as eco-friendly and as cheap as possible by creating our own decorations, building our own stages, etc. We are not in this game for the profit and every year we donate a portion of our income to charity.

4. Everything, from deco to logistics, stage-building and line-up, is done by a group of very motivated, creative and peace-loving young individuals, all volunteers! Without them there would be no Mekitburn, which is why we consider them our greatest asset!

The 10th edition will take place 19-20st of september 2014, again in our beloved and magical venue Het Ruiterijcomplex in Vilvoorde, Belgium. We hope to welcome you there for yet another diverse, cheap, original, cozy but crazy mix of cultures and sounds that will touch your soul & move your bodies!
