Why I clal msyelf Typokat is still a msytrey.

After being active in the early Belgian drum 'n bass scene (1999-2005) as Saphir in the gaz::mazk crew, working hard on demo's and got picked up by some of the major dj's and producers who have promoted my tunes for which I am very grateful. However I lost my appetite to produce drum n bass, mainly due to the unprofessional way certain labels / promotors made promised which never were completed.

I look back at an utterly good time in pioneering Belgian drum n bass releases and got remixed by Ancronix and Chris Su & SKC. I was fortunate enough to get some releases on various labels and played many shows in Belgium, Netherlands.

As gaz::mazk we also hosted some of the very first Belgian drum ’n bass parties as Nights in black vinyl but are mostly know for the Scope parties in Antwerp with Teebee, Black Sun Empire, Fierce, and of course the ‘legendary’ Renegade Hardware - Skool of Hardknocks night with Dylan, Loxy, Ink, Keaton (as the Four Horsemen) , Usual Suspects, Robyn Chaos at trix in Antwerp, back in 2005. This night drew attention and visitors from Germany, France, UK, and beyond. A night never to be forgotten, for us, the visitors and the dj’s themselves, as the Four Horsemen never really were booked like this before. Truly good times.

At that same time I regained joy in working more out of the box and just let it happen through my Typokat moniker. No restrictions, no plan, just play around with samples and ideas and the outcome is random.

As Typokat I got Cahir released on Koala’s third album Tall Machines and Insen is used in the movie Control X. Most of Typokat’s music is used in infomercial videos for brands such as Essenscia, Nyrstar, and more…

I also remixed Koala’s 'Overloaded’ and ‘Nilsen'. These tracks will be released on the ‘Remixed' albums by Koala.

You can find a clip of Overloaded in the video section and Nilsen can be heard on my soundcloud page As Typokat I am working on a 6 track mini album as you read this. A dream which was stored in a box under my bed.... The Album will be called Attique Frequently as in that time my studio was based on the attic of my house. The album will feature some new mixdowns of old tunes and a handful of new ones which I am excited about to share with the world... Or let us just start in Belgium.
