The Shovels were conceived by full-time weirdo and sixties freak Erik Debny somewhere in the nineties as an outlet for his compulsive songwriting, and soon some demo-like sounding albums were released. In 2006 the band released their first real finished album, Dig It!, and this masterpiece gained them a lot of airplay in Belgium and concerts throughout the Benelux (highlight was their show at Pukkelpop 2006). Now the band has returned to the scene, after a few years of inactivity, with their new album Pop Secret. The band is composed out of 2 Evil Superstars (drummer Dave Schroyen and bass player Bart Vandebroek) and 1 piece of FENCE (guitarist Niels hendrix, who also recorded and produced the album). Erik Debny himself takes on the role as frontman and lead singer.
