The Scabby Knees are a pop punk band from Westerlo, formed in 2020 by Teun Van Aerschot, former lead singer for melodic hardcore acts Break of Day and Generation 84, who in an attempt to get some relief from an exhausting personal struggle, locked himself up in his rehearsal space and poured his heart out in the form of music. What resulted was a bunch of songs which initially came out in the style of The Priceduifkes, a band he has been (and still is) a longtime supporter and friend of. He initiated a search for band members and after doing some try outs recruited a band of well experienced musicians that he shared a lot of musical history with. Joren Mesens (Barney’s Ego, Generation 84), Tim Dries (Break of Day, Give Us Your Money) and Jeff Van Asten (Break of Day, Give Us Your Money) joined Teun on drums, guitar and bass respectively and because of their former band experiences, the band gelled smoothly. The sound of the songs quickly started to evolve towards a heavily melodic and melancholic style, not unlike The Menzingers.
