The Broken brings a fresh take on Cold Wave and New Wave, blending post-punk energy with a haunting touch of ‘80s nostalgia. Their music is driven by powerful bass lines, razor-sharp guitars, atmospheric synths, and lyrics that resonate with depth.

The Broken is formed by five musicians, each bringing a unique edge to the band’s evocative sound:

· Bruno Mondelaers – Vocals & guitar: the voice that channels raw emotion into every line.

· Bart Daems - Guitar: known for his sharp, evocative riffs that leave a lasting impression.

· Werner Van Braband - Bass: the pulse of the band, laying down powerful, driving lines.

· Kurt Peys - Keyboards: adds a signature layer of dark, atmospheric sounds.

· Evert Smeyers - Drums: a relentless force that keeps the energy alive in every beat.

Drawing inspiration from iconic bands like Joy Division and The Sound, and with nods to contemporary acts like Ist Ist, The Broken carves out their own path in the New Wave landscape. Their music combines the introspective, brooding quality of Cold Wave with the raw, urgent energy of post-punk, resulting in a sound that feels both timeless and very current.

In 2025, The Broken records their debut album at Studio Subterra Recordings in Bilzen, capturing the essence of their live sound and creative vision. The album will be released in September 2025. The album features tracks like Into the Abyss, Pride, and Reflections, each a testament to their unique blend of melancholy and intensity. With every note, this first LP showcases the band’s dedication to delivering a powerful listening experience.

Despite being at the start of their journey, The Broken has already left a strong impression with their initial live shows, receiving enthusiastic responses from audiences drawn to their dark, immersive sound. The band showcases their potential to captivate even more unforgettable moments as they continue to grow and evolve via the recording of this first album.
