Shishani is a soulful singer/songwriter born in Namibia to a Belgian father and a Namibian mother. She left her motherland at the age of five and grew up in the Netherlands. Shishani's solo career took flight upon her return to Namibia, where her performance at the 2011 Namibian Annual Music Awards grabbed the nation's attention. A year later she won the prestigious Last Band Standing (live band) competition in Namibia and was a headliner at the Windhoek Jazz Festival (2012) performing alongside the South African stars Lira & Selaelo Selato. The spread of her music and message was recognized when her song "Minority" was nominated for Best Single Non Album (2012) and Best Music Video (2013) Namibian Annual Music Awards. Various countrieshave seen her perform already, including Belgium, The Netherlands,Ireland, Czech Republic, Poland, Greece, Malawi, Morocco and South Africa. She addresses social issues in her music leading comparisons to be made to artists like Tracy Chapman, Nneka and Bob Marley. Most recently she won the Amsterdam popmusic competition “Mooie Noten” (2013) because she “has strong lyrics and something to say.” Her main influences have been Soul, RnB, Hiphop & Jazz. She travels through these style and blends them with her own. Currently she is working on her debut album.
