Culturally we aren't even on the brink of what should be called 'Civlised'. Economically we are even more barbaric than we were in Roman times.

"The Dark Plastic Ages" is a good guess what future generations will most likely call current period of time which is typically a time of Waste, economic enslavement of the working poor and barbaric money grabbing by the richest few.

Although in this time most people are aware of Nature's decline, global climate change, pollution and economic deprivation, almost nothing is done to counter or improve the situation.

Enslaved by greed, the aim of most personal sweat, toil and stress is encumbered in attempt to possess yet a bigger, heavier, more expensive and more polluting car to tail along in the evergrowing bumper to bumper march of wheels and poisonous smog.
