Bio
Final album “Venus Ignored” out now:
hubert tuyishime (1998, kigali, rwanda) is a rwandan-belgian artist working across music, moving image and visual art. until 2026 they worked under the moniker porcelain id, a project that concluded with the release of the final album bibi:2 — venus ignored, following the acclaimed debut bibi:1 (2024).
through sparse songwriting, archival thinking and an interest in memory, displacement and ordinary lives, tuyishime builds intimate works where autobiography meets fiction. recurring themes include childhood, migration, illness, parenthood, class, queerness and the unstable relationship between people and the places they once called home. their practice increasingly extends beyond music into film, installation, text and image, treating songs as only one possible form within a larger archive.
as porcelain id, tuyishime became known for a singular voice that balances restraint with emotional precision. their work has drawn comparisons to artists such as destroyer, daniel johnston and the later work of david bowie, while developing a language unmistakably their own.
they were selected as a laureate of the soundtrack 2021–2022 development programme. critics consistently praised the project’s emotional clarity and distinctive songwriting. indie style described the voice as “a powerful timbre that keeps you waiting for it to break, yet never does,” while luminous dash wrote: “this is so much more than a rough diamond. this is honest, furious, in love, hopeful, heartbreaking and fragile in every colour.” musician meskerem mees remarked: “a remarkably developed sound for someone so young. by which i actually mean that i couldn’t make it myself.”
with the completion of bibi:2 — venus ignored, the porcelain id project was deliberately dismantled. today, hubert tuyishime continues an expanded artistic practice centred on archival methods, moving image, writing and socially engaged visual work, investigating how personal histories can become shared cultural memory.
