Bio

Phil Moon was already musically active int he past under the name of DJ Valium, releasing with the German label International Dj Gigolo Records and he was also one of the first Belgian artist to release music out of Detroit, with Teknotika Records .

---- I loved electronic music primarily in the 80s & 90s, the sleeping pill name came about through a third party joke because I tried half a pill for stress , to calm down & confidence boost for my first dj set for the general public on a big event in 1993 , the intention is not that people abuse it to maintain other addictions , the best is still healthy living and exercise , no smoking and little to moderate alcohol ... a full moon is then just a little more romantic before bedtime to watch alone or with 2 :) ----

Frequently asked questions

-When did you get interested in electronic music ?? In my childhood years the soundtracks from programs and movies as well as the rise of Belgian New Beat really captured my imagination. -You were one of the first belgian producer releasing music in Detroit How did you get the idea to send a demo to Gary Martin at Teknotika records? After reading one of his interviews in a magazine and hearing some of his musc I really related to what he was doing. It had a very European feel to it, - Disco minded - minimal -Calypso, sexy, 50s - retro - the music that I released with Teknotika had a real 80's revival theme to it, fised with electro and tribal sounds and a slow 120 bpm.....

The original concept of the Teknotika label was to merge exotica with techno. The exotica period was in the late '50s and early '60s, and consisted of mostly instrumental music with a lot of percussion. This music served to highlight exotic places and beautiful woman.

How did you get in contact with International Dj Gigolo records ? It was Gigolo Records

who contacted me by email, asking if I wanted to send them music for his label after he'd heard my Teknotika and Sativea releases and had heard something futuristic about them.

Info : Started 1996 in Munich as an affiliate of Disko B, Gigolo records quickly established itself as an independent label specialized in electro, house and techno with 80's synth-pop, new wave and disco influences. After many years in Munich Gigolo moved to Berlin in 2000. Until 2001 a medium close-up line art illustration of Arnold Schwarzenegger posing at a bodybuilding event was used as label logo without proper permission

-You had a other name, Vdd Energise ? Yes, VDD stands for my last name and Energize comes from Star Trek! At the start of the 90's I was playing hardcore acid and industrial breaks, one of the first doing this in the West of Belgium.

U.F.O was first a event organization in Flanders Belgium 1993 , which was later taken over in friendship with Vdd to start a label with this name in the UK... in 1999 there was an overstock of the label stored in Brussels but one day the overstock disappeared ..untell today it remains a mystery what happened with the records

-How did you get started making music ? I heard the Belgian label Mackenzie Records in 1990 and it loved it. It was a huge inspiration for me to get myself into production -When did you start to dj ? Believe it or not I was actually checking out vinyl at the age of 10, from various genres like Disco and Rock, I wasn't mixing but just listening - that came when I was 17 and played in a small club in a small town in Belgium. -you already played in several international locations Yes, Scandinavia, Brazil and Germany. -what are your future plans ?

I'm currently uploading unreleased produced songs from the 90s on you tube and bandcamp.
