Bio

MAUDLIN was formed in late November 2004. It was clear from the very first rehearsal that MAUDLIN would play psychedelic rock, doom, post hardcore, sludge,... Two months later MAUDLIN played their very first live show, opening for THE WHITE CIRCLE CRIME CLUB. Ever since MAUDLIN got known as a very powerful and intense live act.

The first few months after that 1st show MAUDLIN did nothing else then playing. They took it step by step, city by city, slumbering like a deadly venom they grew and created a niche of their own.

Inbetween live shows MAUDLIN was in the Fatsoundz studio recording their demo, which was picked up by OFFERANDUM RECORDS and saw the day of light as a cd ep in June 2005. “Solitary Echo”, which was mastered by V. Teetaert (AMEN RA) sold around 1500 copies.

The release of “Solitary Echo” led to bigger shows, weekend tours with BOSSK (uk) & TEPHRA (ger) and a very first European tour.

Inbetween all those shows MAUDLIN started writing their follow up album and they were aiming high. No studio this time, because MAUDLIN felt to restricted by time and they had big ideas of the sound, recording different layers,... so recording the new album would happen in the rehearsal space. No better room to capture all the tunes that the room were the tunes got created. Sadly enough they had some bad luck and had 2 hard drive crashes, which led to a big delay.

But as soon as everything was recorded A. Zec (CUSTOMS, DIABLO BOULEVARD, DEATH BEFORE DISCO,...) mixed everything smoothly. Shortly after that process M. Lindberg (CULT OF LUNA, KHOMA,...) mastered and finished up “Ionesco”. A conceptual album who tells the story, feelings and emotions of a fictive character who got a transorbital lobotomy by Dr. Freeman who was active in the 1950ies. The album got amazing reviews.

Again the release of this album (June 2008 for the cd on OFFERANDUM RECORDS and August 2008 for the lp on GENET & OFFERANDUM RECORDS) led to big shows (RUSSIAN CIRCLES, THESE ARMS ARE SNAKES, KYLESA, CULT OF LUNA, CALLISTO, ROSETTA, MISERY INDEX, AMEN RA,...) and 2 European tours who brought MAUDLIN to countries as Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, France, Austria, Swiss, Slovenia, Hungary, Spain, Italy, Luxembourg.

Because of the expansion of the MAUDLIN families (newborns, constructing houses,...), MAUDLIN took it slow in 2010 and 2011. They played out occasionally, but weren't looking for gigs very active. For some members it became obvious that 'the family life' and the motivation of other members to take MAUDLIN to the next level became a difficult combination. Always difficult to part ways with people you love, but it was for the better. Members Thijs Goethals & Tim Gyselbrecht left the band without ever playing one of the songs they recorded for “A Sign of Time”.

So the upcoming (February 2013) album “A Sign of Time” will be played with a new MAUDLIN member (Yannick Dumarey also know from DEATH BEFORE DISCO, DEDICTED,...). And we can say that “A Sign of Time” is psychedelic doom/rock re-invented. As a listener you'll get disposed to a soul of rawness and deep emotions baptised in a hallicunant pool of atmosphere out of which comes a rearing beast, that shows it's real power. Intensity and experience are keywords of the record and live set that comes with it. “A Sign of Time” is a conceptual album for people who are into NEUROSIS, CAVE IN, TYPE O-NEGATIVE, LED ZEPPELIN, PINK FLOYD, HAWKWIND,...
