Elena Olga Groppo (It/sr) - viool

Italiaans en Servisch, ik kwam naar België om klassieke viool te studeren, eerst aan het KASK in Gent, daarna aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Brussel, waar ik net mijn studies heb afgerond (2023). Ik speel voor een gevarieerd en kleurrijk publiek en heb de kans gehad om op te treden met verschillende kamermuziek groepen, ensembles en orkesten in Europa (Italië, Duitsland, België en Nederland): Ik laat graag van me horen op ongewone plekken, van theaterzalen tot ondergrondse podia. Na het behalen van mijn master met onderscheiding in klassieke viool aan het Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, vroeg ik me af wat ik in mijn academische opleiding kon integreren om mijn artistieke onderzoek voort te zetten, dat de laatste jaren een veel atypische wending heeft genomen dan dat van mijn collega's in de klassieke wereld. Het soort carrière dat ik vandaag zie, is gericht op theater en multidisciplinaire creatie, dankzij de ruime keuze die de Belgische scène biedt, die leeft van een dialectiek tussen klassieke muziek, circus, dans, scenografie en de contrasterende mix van traditionele en hedendaagse stijlen. Mijn laatste projecten in samenwerking met circus en theater (Ora JaMàs, Transfo Collect) hebben in mij een verlangen gewekt om dramaturgie en theatrale regie te begrijpen, om te experimenteren en me te verdiepen in de wereld van entertainment met een meer geschikte taal, wat me een opwindende vrijheid geeft in mijn creatieve toekomst.Het idee is om een vioolconcert te animeren, of om mijn eigen visuele interpretatie van geluid te maken. Dit zijn mijn nieuwe onthullende pogingen om uit de klassieke wereld te breken, of beter gezegd om mijn muzikale opleiding te verrijken en mijn eigen identiteit te vinden. Animeren, acteren, ik vond mijn stem door een ontmoeting met een realiteit die veel levendiger, actiever en aantrekkelijker was: de wereld van de dans. Hier in Brussel vond ik omgevingen die erg open stonden voor dansvoorstellingen (TicTac, Ultima Vez, Bubble dance). De ontmoeting met de circuswereld, waar performers vaak een lichamelijkheid en aanwezigheid op het podium opdringen boven de intensiteit van de muziek, waarbij ze het gewicht en de intensiteit van de geluidsboodschap verwaarlozen, of het nu klassieke muziek of jazz of folk is, was een nieuw soort experiment en uitdaging. Mijn laatste projecten kwamen voort uit een samenwerking met circusartiesten (Ora JaMàs-2023 en 2024) die de volwassenheid hadden om zichzelf te confronteren met een totaal nieuwe wereld, die van de klassieke muziek, binnen haar strikte regels. Het was hier, met dit antithetische en duizelingwekkende contrast tussen het conservatieve en het extravagante, dat ik mijn stijl begon te vinden, een persoonlijke fusie, de modulerende brug, de taal die nodig is om te communiceren en elkaar te begrijpen tussen de twee werelden, een hedendaags cirque-theater en musique.Dankzij theatergezelschappen waar ik werkte, deed ik kennis op over acteren en ontwikkelde ik circusvaardigheden (jongleren, fietsen, acrobatische technieken) dankzij opleidingen in het Up circuscentrum in Brussel ! Ik werk nu aan nieuwe elektronische tracks in de Studio Steph (Krieklaar, 2024, nieuwe tracks op soundcloud.com/olga-groppo binnenkort), het mengen van klassieke muziek naar de beat, de nieuwe muzikale wereld, een manier om mijn klassieke achtergrond opnieuw te laten leven bij de jongere bevolking en interesse te wekken bij het publiek van vandaag. Geluiden opnemen, maar ook live optreden, en mijn positie vinden, experimenteren met de ruimte als actrice, violiste en danseres in de circuswereld tussen professionele acrobaten.

Italian and Serbian, I came to Belgium to study classical violin, first at KASK in Ghent, then at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, where I have just completed my studies (2023). I play for varied and colourful audiences and have had the opportunity to perform with various chamber music groups, ensembles and orchestras in Europe (Italy, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands): I enjoy making myself heard in unusual places, from theatre halls to underground stages. After obtaining my master's degree with distinction in classical violin at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, I wondered what I could incorporate into my academic training to continue my artistic research, which in recent years has taken a much more atypical turn than that of my colleagues in the classical world. The kind of career I see today is focused on theatre and multidisciplinary creation, thanks to the wide choice offered by the Belgian scene, which lives on a dialectic between classical music, circus, dance, scenography and the contrasting mix of traditional and contemporary styles. My latest projects in collaboration with circus and theatre (Ora JaMàs, Transfo Collect) have awakened in me a desire to understand dramaturgy and theatrical direction, to experiment and delve into the world of entertainment with a more appropriate language, which gives me an exciting freedom in my creative future.The idea is to animate a violin concerto, or to make my own visual interpretation of sound. These are my new revealing attempts to break out of the classical world, or rather to enrich my musical education and find my own identity. Animating, acting, I found my voice through an encounter with a reality that was much more vivid, active and appealing: the world of dance. Here in Brussels, I found environments that were very open to dance performances (TicTac, Ultima Vez, Bubble dance). Meeting the circus world, where performers often impose a physicality and presence on stage above the intensity of the music, neglecting the weight and intensity of the sound message, be it classical music or jazz or folk, was a new kind of experiment and challenge. My last projects came out of a collaboration with circus artists (Ora JaMàs-2023 and 2024) who had the maturity to confront themselves with a totally new world, that of classical music, within its strict rules. It was here, with this antithetical and dizzying contrast between the conservative and the extravagant, that I began to find my style, a personal fusion, the modulating bridge, the language needed to communicate and understand each other between the two worlds, a contemporary cirque-theatre and musique.Thanks to theatre companies where I worked, I gained knowledge of acting and developed circus skills (juggling, cycling, acrobatic techniques) thanks to training at the Up circus centre in Brussels ! I am now working on new electronic tracks at the Studio Steph (Kreieklaar, 2024, new tracks on soundcloud.com/olga-groppo soon), mixing classical music to the beat, the new musical world, a way to revive my classical background with the younger population and arouse interest in today's audience. Recording sounds, but also performing live, and finding my position, experimenting with space as an actress, violinist and dancer in the circus world among professional acrobats.
