Kasablanka is the new project consisting of members from Bed Rugs, Polaroid Fiction and Yawns. Their jointly love is formed around a mixture of DIY production, hip hop inspired beats, vintage pop baselines, vocal harmonies and a love of shuffling psychedelic synths and fuzz guitars. It can be traced all the way back to their great enthusiasm for artists such as Phoenix, MGMT, D’Angelo, Tiger Love, Toro Y Moi, Anderson .Paak, and so many more. Of course, all filtered through their own playful perspective and approach. The nectar of classic soul and French electropop should not be overlooked either, for it raises the heat most intensely into the bands DNA.
Kasablanka keep themselves to be as prolific as they are diverse with their subsequent early songwriting, always pointing themselves in new directions while never sacrificing their melodic sensibility or keen ear for arrangements and texture. Psych-tinged pop bangers with experimental layers of synth frames, it feels bright and shimmering but with enough oddness floating around to keep the songs adventurous and juicy.
The band performed their first live appearance during Belgium's prestigious band contest Humo's Rock Rally in 2016 and reached the finals in April, where they only gave their third performance.
