During rehearsals, we're usually bent over our instruments like alchemists over their brew... Creating, exploring, cursing, sighing, stopping, rebooting ...

Once in a while though, we'll look at each other smiling, knowing that we have found common ground.

Joy & Safar is a joint collaboration between singer- songwriter Joy Simar and the band Safar République.

The project is about bringing together two different ways of playing and composing music. One is the pop-soul attitude with its binary beats and lucid structures. The other is related to western and northern African traditions with its hypnotic repetitive grooves and ternary subdivisions.

Did you know “Safar” means “journey or voyage” in arab? Makes sense now, doesn't it?
