At 16, he picked up the bass the foundational heartbeat of the alternative scene. By 19, he had transitioned into the world of guitar cutting his teeth in various local bands during a time when the Belgian New Wave and post-punk movements were at their peak. The pivotal shift occurred at age 23. Trading strings for oscillators, Karel invested in his first synthesizer diving headfirst into the burgeoning world of techno. In 1996, Karel caught the ear of Renaat Vandepapeliere, the visionary founder of the legendary R&S Records. Signing a deal with the label that pioneered the global techno sound (housing legends like Aphex Twin and Joey Beltram) provided a spark of motivation that fueled his creative fire for decades. "I didn’t look for motivation in other artists; I found it through Renaat at R&S. It was about the belief in the craft."
