I grew up playing classical music and only began composing songs from stories in 2010. While studying for my doctorate in the Prescott College Sustainability Education PhD program, I worked with a fellow cohort member on a method of songwriting that invited a person to share a story form their life and move through the creative process of shaping their story into a song. I have been working as a songwriting guide and using this method of songwriting, which I call Story-to-Song (STS), with individuals and groups, facilitating the creative process so a song may reveal itself in its own unique way, be it from a traditional spoken story, shared words or phrases, or a poem. The creation of each song is unique to those who participate in the birthing process. I do my utmost to honor the authenticity and integrity of each person with whom I work.
