A shy guy hidden in a rakish philanderer’s suit, Julien Van Aerschot brandishes the microphone and caresses the piano keys under the guise of Goldenboy.

This velvet voiced dandy from Brussels imagines music on the cusp of dreams and reality, between reveries of the past and a future as yet to be divined.

Across the nine titles of his debut E.P. ‘Lola’, the artist employs a self?assured pop vision, a parallel multicoloured universe where fantastic imagination is first and foremost a way of life.

Goldenboy has stars in his eyes and a head full of influences (David Bowie, Scott Walker, Patrick Wolf).

Passionately enthralled by women, the young man reveals his obsessions via songs split between the desire to embrace and the fear of love.

Also, on ‘Lola’, we tumble regularly into suffering, fragility and feeling down, a tightrope of rebellious feelings that Goldenboy excels at precariously navigating.

Both dazzling and captivating, his emotions unravel with humour and finesse, as he lays down his off the wall melodies at the border where man and woman become one.

Sitting aside the single ‘Lola’, the melody of ‘Love in A minor’ propels the listener into a refrain evocative of Russian mountainscapes, full of epic climbs and enchanting loops.

A colourful personality and out of the ordinary singer, Goldenboy pours his heart and soul into his songs. Passion and disenchanted emotions imbue with full force the glittering choruses and glamorous verses of ‘Lola’.

Signed to Liège label Freaksville and produced by Benjamin Schoos, the alter ego of the elegant Brussels dandy, this first E.P. hints at the finesse brought by Goldenboy: a man both (im)perfect and brilliant in equal measures.
