BROADCAST FROM FLINTOLOGY
A small outroductory from a ‘do not have the money but this might do’ custom-built studioproject.
Flintology (and why we are currently not playing in a theatre near you).
Back in 1992 we got introduced to an Akai S-2800 sampler in a, for that time, very professional recording studio. A thing called Micrologic was running on a pc. This whole setup was somehow connected to tapemachines using what looked like today’s old videotapes. Lots of knobs on a mixing-desk. Ideas started smouldering.
This eventually amounted into improvising our own recording room ‘Der Bünker’. Leading amongst other little ditties to 5 full Flintology albums.
“Half Full – Half Empty” : Flint, 12 tracks, Flintology records (BE) 1996
“Testimon(e)y” : Flintology, 15 tracks, Urgence Disk Records (CH) 2004
“Diesel’s Fury” : Flintology, 11 tracks, digital webvideo releases 2007
“Backstabber” : Flintology, 23 tracks, Urgence Disk Records (CH) 2011
“Last Broadcast From Reality” : Flintology, 12 tracks, Flintology recordings (BE) 2019
There are some big gaps in between these recordings. We will not bother you with trivialities like the constant lack of gold coins, musical and technical setbacks and missed opportunities. Not excluding other exciting and/or short-lived musical deviations. It was all there. Rock and Roll ! huh.
Flintology has always been a studio project and has never much focused on making ‘live’ music and being the next Big Thing (although – honestly - we would have liked to have our recording room on a French sunlit mountainside by now).
It has mainly been about searching for what makes a song tick. Finding out how to merge the different musical influences we got to like over the years. Just relying on a full-blown grumpy determination and a truckload of respect and awe for the art and techniques of the unseen : namely the guys and girls working behind the music scenes. These Dark Sonic Knights called producers, engineers, mixing-engineers, mastering-experts and alike who can make the difference between a track and a TRACK!
So this is a massive hail to them !
And thumbs up to the instrument builders and software industries making it possible to design crazy ideas on a few square feet. Sometimes almost even affordable…
As explained above, we like production and not so much re-production.
We are old-skool and we love a full album consisting of interesting and original TRACKS! not so much littered with halfbaked fillers.
So our restricted precious little time gets spent in our studio and not backstage in some godforsaken concerthole. Hoping to produce stuff worth listening to. But this is just our opinion. And as good old Clint once said : ”Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one”. We stick to our guns.
Besides, we are not exactly well adjusted to the outside world.
Although it is physically possible to get us all out on one stage, the mental catch is quite another story. As you might have read in the short bio’s earlier in this booklet.
This however does not necessarily mean we do not meddle or play in other musical projects. We do attend gigs. Live entertainment seems the only sure way to generate some money nowadays. Especially for local bands. Hail to them as well !
Now about you, yes YOU ! reading this. If you like what you hear then please share so others might check it out or even buy it (God forbid!). We are still dreaming of that view from that French mountainside.
‘Last Broadcast From Reality’ is the culmination of just plodding along with different instruments and ever evolving hardware and software during the weekends and our free time. We recorded this album during 2018. It is actually the follow-up for the first album ‘Half full- Half empty’ back in the 90’s.
We enjoyed it thoroughly. And maybe, one day, if the correct planets align and you can find us, then maybe you can hire… and we might just bring this circus to the stage. The one near you. Just like Mr. Clown in track eight.
Thank you for listening to these recordings.
You Rock.
