ControlState
Five guys from Belgium bringing Progressive Metalcore with touches of their H8000 roots to the masses.
Bio
Every child has its heroes. That was no different for five guys growing up in Belgium. Being the youth of the late 90s and the early 2000s these guys experience the nu metal revolution in its rise and its destruction and they worship several metal gods. They live in a world where post-grunge and punk rock are no longer underground. They grow up in a hardcore and metal environment and start to play on their own. In 2007 they decided that they could not contribute to the music scene anymore with their current line-ups. A seed had been planted in their minds and started to grow. They wanted to create the music as they experienced in their youth and attract new kids, however still try to be original. ControlState was born.
After releasing a two-song promo and intensive rehearsing, 2008 and the beginning of 2009 is a busy period of live shows leading to the release of their first album “The Powerhouse” at the end of 2009. The album is getting fantastic reviews and more shows follow. However, trying to prepare for a second album, the band feels the difficulty of trying to go beyond the expectations and aims too high, leading to different failures. Moreover, during spring 2011 the bass player Miguel decides to leave the band due to starting his own business. He is replaced by Nick, former bass player of Blood Redemption and at that time playing in Rafflesia.
Struggling with the lack of shows, the lack of motivation follows, almost leading to a split in the first half of 2012. After a year, Nick leaves the band and ControlState is desperate. But failing was never a real option. Lucas joins the band as new bass player. They record three of their new songs and release them in 2013. Being older and wiser now, they start to work again on a second album and rehearse a lot to hit the stage with newer, harder material. The vibe of the promo in 2013 does not stop and ControlState goes on with recording seven more songs. The result was more than satisfactory and a second album called “The Delta Pack” was released in March 2014. With a combination of old and new material ControlState is ready to hit the stages harder than ever.
