Met "Warrior of the Good" levert C A P P A E R T een matuur en gelaagd album af dat elke onbevangen kans verdient. De plaat is opvallend eclectisch. Moonshine heeft die doorleefde country-vice die Lucinda Williams als geen ander beheerst. Emotional Complexity doet oosters aan zonder te trappen in clichés, en Crowns speelt een zwoel verleidingsspel met jazz en bigband. En terwijl de variatie de luisteraar alert houdt, zorgt de sfeer voor samenhang. Romantiek en melancholie lagen zelden zo dicht bijeen. En af en toe raken ze elkaar zelfs. Verlangen en lust worden intussen heen en weer geslingerd tussen passie en tragiek - soms subtiel, dan weer uitgelaten. Somewhere on a desolate chalk cliff in Picardy, off the beaten path, is where Annelies Cappaert writes her song lyrics and music. Sarah Cappaert adds the “accent aigus” with her vocal tone. The concert series “in the dark” is born from Annelies’ years of commuting to and from this isolated cliff house. She writes songs in her own fabricated language and doesn’t show or tell anyone for years. It was producer, film composer and arranger, Steve Willaert, who first noticed and underwrote her unusual and unique talent as a writer: “She writes music in colorful brush strokes. They are melodic unpolished jewels filled with feeling. Her lyrics are layered and reveal themselves like Matryoshka dolls. A writer who lives for her songs.”

“In the dark,” the unique concert series in which the sisters premiere their new album “WARRIOR OF THE GOOD,” has been made possible with the support of XINIX, a charity for the blind. When visual stimuli are discounted and all you can rely on are sounds, smells and touch, vulnerability reigns and the focus is turned inward. This can be heavy. It’s very challenging to surrender yourself to the darkness; to close the shutters to your window of the world and tread into the unknown. A team of blind and visually impaired people are counted on for the logistics.

After a while, light pours out of the cracks onto the stage.

An “unseen” journey full of warm challenging sounds which carry through a completely dark concert hall and into the mountains. Put your faith into your blind guide, who will personally bring you to your seat using touch alone. The heart reflects in this confrontational darkness. A musette full of “petites histoires,” stories about lust, love, fantasy, family roots, endurance, loneliness, fathers, goodbyes and simple everyday things. Alongside you, the musicians are also challenged to cope in the darkness. A concert in which the unpolished and unforeseen are guests, hiding amongst the audience.
