Bio

Growing up between Greek and French cultures, Scarlett O'Hanna emerged as a singular voice in alternative music. Now based in Brussels, she returns with 'Precious Nothings' (2024), her fourth album and a testament to artistic resilience. "These are unloving times to live / but at the end of fear is a door," she writes in her lyrics, capturing both her clear-eyed view of present challenges and unwavering belief in transformation.

Her musical journey began at age six with piano and music theory, later shaped by Greek new wave singer Arleta, who helped her select her first guitar at sixteen. After a decade-long hiatus influenced by Greece's socio-economic crisis, she diversified her artistic practice through podcast work, dance and film scores, sound installations, translations, and community projects. As she puts it: "Sometimes it takes time to be alive." This period of exploration ultimately led to a renewed creative drive and musical reinvention.

'Precious Nothings' (silex / Inpartmaint Japan) weaves alternative edge with synth-pop dreamscapes, creating an intimate yet cinematic soundscape that explores themes of belonging and self-respect. Composed largely on synthesiser and electronic drums, O'Hanna approached the album "from a writing-producing place," leaning into what she calls "a more cinematic approach of production." Co-produced by O'Hanna with Pieterjan Coppejans, who also mixed the album, and mastered by Matt Colton (Metropolis Studios), the record delivers impressive sonic depth. Rolling Stone France praised its ability to "exude softness and sensitivity," while Tsugi magazine described it as "moving, a rediscovery." The album's opening track 'Unafraid' caught the attention of Sharon Van Etten. Her extensive performance history includes support slots for WILCO and Cocorosie, and tours across Europe, USA, and Japan. Following her album release at Nuits Botanique, she toured with her band through France and Switzerland, delivering intimate and cinematic live shows.

Her artistic vision extends beyond music - the recently released music video for 'Stick with You' was awarded Best Music Video at the Europe Music Video Awards, showcasing her commitment to creating immersive artistic experiences that transcend genre boundaries.
