My songs reach people and make a lyrical connection with them, to draw them into the poetic storytelling of my world, where musicianship and sing-writing craft are paramount.
Bio
indie-folk EP called “Fragments of Belonging”. These songs are written, performed, recorded and mastered at my home studio in Brussels. It’s the first album release of singer-songwriter James Hogan. The songs are in English, they are lyric-driven and maintain a do-it-yourself/handmade aesthetic.
My music follows a tradition of vintage singer-songwriters, bringing the vocal warmth of James Taylor, the travel-imagery of Joni Mitchell, the prayer-like texts of Leonard Cohen, and the song-writing and production playground of David Byrne. Ultimately, this music recalls a personal upheaval and a search across continents and presents what has been found, the few “fragments of belonging”.
