Mathis Coopman is a composer and artistic director from France. After completing a Master’s in Composition Applied to Visual Arts (MAAAV), he entered the International Master in Composition for Screen (INMICS), studying first at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent and later at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon in 2025.

His musical approach is centered around the idea of blurring boundaries whether between acoustic and electronic, music and sound design. His work often avoids clear genre definitions and explores how these elements shape the listener’s perception. Passionate about interdisciplinary creation, collaboration is central to his practice. He works in cinema but also with dancers, performers, designers, and visual artists, with a focus on performance art, dance, fashion, and installation-based projects.

Furthermore, his work as a composer now extends to the artistic direction of the SHOUTS (for) ART collective, an initiative that aims to bring together artists from different disciplines and to support the creation of new works by young and emerging artists.

His latest work, *Fragments de ville*, created for dance and premiered at the CNSMDL in December 2025, continues his exploration of the dissolution of boundaries. Written for a surround sound system, the piece blends electronic and acoustic elements with field recordings and spoken texts by the dancers, inviting the audience to enter the performers’ inner world as they explore questions of identity and individuality.
