Insomnia se forme dans le courant de l'année 1996 par les frères Konikiewicz, Ludo (guitare) et Nikko (batterie). Leur objectif : un groupe dans l'air du temps, influencé par Pantera, Slayer, Grip Inc. et d'autres, qui délivrera un metal carré, puissant et efficace. Fred JST (vocaux) et Roman Delante (basse) intègrent le groupe pour compléter le quatuor.

Le groupe foule bon nombre de scènes en Wallonie et à Bruxelles dans les mois qui suivent.

Insomnia est repéré par Phil Renote, ingénieur du son au studio Haut-Regard ayant travaillé avec André Gielen (Channel Zero, Cryme, Massif, ...) Il propose son aide pour l'enregistrement du premier album. Pendant plusieurs mois, le groupe compose de nouveaux titres en gardant la même ligne de conduite. Malheureusement, quelques semaines avant l'entrée en studio, le groupe se sépare.

Fin 2015, Ludo reprend contact avec les membres du groupe et propose la reformation pour une date unique à l'occasion de ses 40 ans ainsi que des 20 ans du groupe. Pendant dix mois, les musiciens se remettent au travail afin de proposer un show exclusif pour le 17 décembre 2016.

Le concert est un énorme succès. Vu l'engouement des gens présents et le plaisir de remonter ensemble sur scène, Insomnia décide de ne pas en rester là. Le groupe se produit ainsi pour quelques dates en 2017, dont la première partie du groupe brésilien Nervosa à Liège (sold-out). Mais l'objectif principal pour cette fin d'année 2017 est la composition et l’enregistrement d'un tout nouvel EP. Le style reste résolument metal catchy et groovy à la fois. De nouvelles dates s’enchainent et Insomnia partagera de belles scènes avec, notamment, Komah, Signs of Algorithm, King Satan, Dagoba, Unswabbed, Kee Marcello, Exuviated ou encore Desdemonia et Catalysis.

2019, Insomnia atteint la demi-finale du Wacken Metal Battle et obtient le prix du public. S’enchaine la victoire des tremplins du Durbuy Rock Festival qui permettra au quatuor de monter sur la grande scène du célèbre festival.

Septembre 2020, le line-up change un peu et intègre son nouveau batteur : Adrien Delgambre, (Drakkar). Le groupe est à nouveau au complet, vient d'enregistrer et de tourner son nouveau clip « Regeneration »

Septembre 2021 Insomnia sera le premier groupe à jouer deux jours d affilé au Durbuy Rock festival.

2026 a la demande du public et organisation reprise du Groupe avec Nikko batterie (steellover) , Roman Delante Bass, Ludo guitare, Bart (ex mystica) King (ex dollsex) chant pour l enregistrement du futur et nouvelle album, tournée à venir.

Mai 2026 insomnia à participé au wacken metal battle 2026 et sera classé deuxième du concours.

Insomnia was formed in 1996 by brothers Ludo Konikiewicz (guitar) and Nikko (drums). Their goal: a contemporary band, influenced by Pantera, Slayer, Grip Inc., and others, that would deliver a straightforward, powerful, and effective metal sound. Fred JST (vocals) and Roman Delante (bass) joined the band to complete the quartet.

The band played numerous shows in Wallonia and Brussels in the following months. Insomnia was discovered by Phil Renote, a sound engineer at Haut-Regard studio who had worked with André Gielen (Channel Zero, Cryme, Massif, etc.). He offered his help with the recording of their first album. For several months, the band composed new tracks while maintaining the same approach. Unfortunately, a few weeks before entering the studio, the band broke up. At the end of 2015, Ludo reconnected with the band members and proposed a reunion for a one-off show to celebrate his 40th birthday and the band's 20th anniversary. For ten months, the musicians worked tirelessly to prepare an exclusive show for December 17, 2016. The concert was a huge success. Given the enthusiasm of the audience and the joy of being back on stage together, Insomnia decided to continue. The band played a few dates in 2017, including opening for the Brazilian band Nervosa in Liège (sold out). But the main focus for the end of 2017 was writing and recording a brand new EP. Their style remained resolutely catchy and groovy metal. New dates are coming thick and fast, and Insomnia will share some great stages with, among others, Komah, Signs of Algorithm, King Satan, Dagoba, Unswabbed, Kee Marcello, Exuviated, Desdemonia, and Catalysis.

In 2019, Insomnia reached the semi-finals of the Wacken Metal Battle and won the audience award. This was followed by a victory at the Durbuy Rock Festival's talent competition, which allowed the quartet to perform on the main stage of the renowned festival.

In September 2020, the lineup changed slightly, welcoming a new drummer: Adrien Delgambre (formerly of Drakkar). The band is back to full strength and has just recorded and filmed their new music video, "Regeneration."

In September 2021, Insomnia became the first band to play two consecutive days at the Durbuy Rock Festival.

In 2019 bereikte Insomnia de halve finale van de Wacken Metal Battle en won de publieksprijs. Hierna volgde een overwinning in de talentenjacht van het Durbuy Rock Festival, waardoor het kwartet op het hoofdpodium van het gerenommeerde festival mocht optreden.

In september 2020 veranderde de bezetting enigszins met de komst van een nieuwe drummer: Adrien Delgambre (voorheen van Drakkar). De band is weer compleet en heeft zojuist hun nieuwe muziekvideo, "Regeneration", opgenomen en gefilmd.

In september 2021 werd Insomnia de eerste band die twee dagen achter elkaar op het Durbuy Rock Festival speelde.

In 2022 overleed de oorspronkelijke zanger tragisch, wat leidde tot de annulering van geplande optredens. In 2026 hervatte de groep op verzoek van het publiek en de organisatie de activiteiten met Nikko (drums, steelover), Roman Delante (bas), Ludo (gitaar), Bart (ex-Mystica) en King (ex-Dollsex) (zang) voor de opnames van een toekomstig album en een tournee.

Insomnia nam deel aan de Wacken Metal Battle 2026 en behaalde de tweede plaats in de competitie.
