Bio
HULST is a captivating solo project helmed by multi-instrumentalist Pieter M. Hulst, based in Belgium. HULST began his musical journey at the age of 8, playing the cello. Gradually mastering various instruments and developing a unique sound. HULST played in many bands over the years, working as a composer and musician. A Life Under the Sun became the first single where it all fitted together.
HULST's music is heavily inspired by the vibrant and eclectic retro-pop genre. Growing up listening to the Bowie, Supertramp and Nick Cave, these bands became the wallpaper for future endeavors. His compositions are a kaleidoscope of colors, evoking the nostalgic essence of the 70/80s while infusing modern elements that make his sound both timeless and innovative.
Echoes of Joy (release 20-3-2025) became the album that resonates with the universal experiences of love, friendship, and loss. It’s a journey through the highs and lows of life, capturing moments of joy and sorrow, and the hope for what's still to come. HULST: “The songs where all about creating a place far away from gloomy politics and doom spread in the newspapers, it’s all about giving hope and talking about the things that really matter to me.”
This collection of songs where mostly recorded in spring and autumn 2024 in HULST’s home studio close to the woods and London. Echoes of Joy marks HULST's first venture as a solo artist. It didn’t come as a surprise that he reached out to his longtime friend and producer Christopher Peter Jenkins to record the album with him. An album that has been years in the making, but that came out when the time was right!
