- Mount Olympus
- Beriato Music Concert Works - Grade 3,5 – Duration: 09:30 Performed by The Royal Ypriana Wind Band and its conductor Nico Logghe. Mount Olympus was commissioned by the Groot Genker Orkest from Genk (Belgium) on the occasion of its 20th anniversary. In the context of this composition, Mount Olympus, the home of the Greek gods, can be seen as a reference to the Zwarte Berg (Black Mountain) in Genk, that, with its rolling hills and lush nature, is also a place of inspiration and contemplation – which prompted the composer to write this attractive work, in which various facets of the mythological mountain Olympus are represented. - The Flood
- Beriato Concert Works Series - Grade 3 – Duration: 09:35 The Flood was commissioned by Music Society Maris Sonores from Biddinghuizen, the Netherlands, on the occasion of its 55th anniversary. In this colourful composition, the name of the society has been inventively woven into the music – Maris Sonores meaning sounds of the sea – by means of key clicks in the flutes and clarinets, wind effects in various brass and woodwind instruments along with timpani, as well as sound effects in the small percussion. In addition, the history of the town is also reflected musically. Many centuries ago, around the year 800, a hamlet by the name of Bidningahusum already existed; unfortunately, it fell victim to the water of the then Zuiderzee. Later, the catastrophic flood of 1170 dealt the final blow. In the 1960s, there was a call for pioneers to once more build a town carrying the name Biddinghuizen in the polder of Eastern Flevoland – and so it happened. This versatile work, which is available for concert band as well as fanfare band, has been written in such a way that many bands will be able to play it. Each instrument group comes out well, so that The Flood will be a joy for players and listeners alike. - Febesa
- Beriato Concert Works Series - Grade 4 – Duration: 08:04 The title of this work, Febesa, refers to the four notes it is based on: F, E, Bflat (BES in Dutch) and A. At the beginning of the work, the sound of these notes creates a mysterious, extraordinary atmosphere. The work slowly builds from the low brass as the thematic torch is handed to the woodwind section and this leads into a grand tutti. In a tonal and refreshing allegro, the febesa-theme now has a more harmonic role. After this passage, the symmetric form of the work brings us back to the mysterious atmosphere of the introduction, with solos for euphonium, oboe and flute. https://www.bandmusicshop.co.uk/febesa-bmp10021457?returnurl=%2fsearch%3fq%3dfebesa%26substoreid%3d

- A Dragon’s Tale
- Beriato Music Concert Works - Grade 2,5 – Duration: 06:30 In anticipation of a recording, this is a digital performance A Dragon's Tale tells the tale of the dragon of Kraków: Once upon a time, a very long time ago, a fire-breathing dragon lived in a cave at the foot of the Wawel Hill in Kraków, near the river Wisła. According to legend, this dragon terrorised the region: it devoured the peasants' cattle, and sometimes even demanded young maidens to be sacrificed. Many brave knights made valiant attempts to defeat the dragon – but to no avail. One day, the clever young shoemaker Skuba invented a ruse to defeat the dragon. He filled a dead sheep with sulphur, laid it in front of the cave and waited for the dragon to emerge and gobble up the sheep. The sulphur caught fire due to the sparks in the dragon's mouth, whereupon the dragon drank so much water from the river that it eventually exploded. Kraków was freed from the terrifying dragon, and Skuba, of course, was welcomed as a hero! Nowadays, an impressive statue of the Wawel dragon stands at the entrance to the cave, as a symbol of courage, resourcefulness, and the victory of good over evil. With A Dragon's Tale, Filip Ceunen won the 2023 VLAMO International Composition Contest. To purchase print edition: https://www.bandmusicshop.co.uk/a-dragon-s-tale-bmp25012764

- Oz : the Green Wizard
- Oz: the Green Wizard - Filip Ceunen - 9'00'' - grade 3/4 'Oz: the Green Wizard' is a programmatic concert work that describes the story of The Wizard of Oz in 6 continuous movements. The first part, 'The Cyclone', expresses the whirlwind that lifts up and drags Dorothy's house. Both the thunder of the house and the turbulence of the wind are clearly audible in this part. 'The Journey to the Great Oz' describes Dorothy's long journey to the Land of Oz. Her journey begins quietly, but soon she faces many adventures and dangers that cross her path. In this second part you can hear how more and more travel companions join Dorothy to continue her journey to Oz. Part 3, 'The Guardian of the Gate', is a short, majestic and solemn part and opens the gates to the next part, 'Oz the Terrible'. After a mysterious beginning, this movement is followed by an orchestral crescendo and a great tempo acceleration to reflect the dark character of Oz. The fifth movement, 'The Good Witch of the South' is quiet and melodic and reflects the good character of Glinda, the witch who helps the travelling companion back home. 'Back home' is the sixth and final part of this work. Various themes from the piece are brought to the fore one last time. The thread through this composition is formed by a rising or falling sequence of 3 consecutive notes. This line returns, varying or not, in each theme. 'Oz: the Green Wizard' is an ideal concert or contest work in which all groups of the orchestra are extensively featured. https://www.bvtmusic.be/en/webshop/product/oz-the-green-wizard-cb

- Echo of the Phoenix
- Echo of the Phoenix - Filip Ceunen - 4'45'' - grade 3 - BVT193 'Echo of the Phoenix' was specially composed for the 50th anniversary of the 'Koninklijk Harmonieorkest' from Waterschei-Zwartberg (B). The title of the work refers to the origin of this band, which goes back to the heritage of the mining band André Dumont from Zwartberg. (Phoenix = animal from mythology that was able to be reborn from its own ashes). It is a concert march with a traditional beginning and ending and a somewhat 'deviant' middle section that refers to the youthful development within the band. The march is composed of 3 themes or motifs that appear throughout the work, varying or not.
