Barwalker Louis, born André De Laat on July 22, 1983, in Antwerp, is a saxophonist with a distinctive and cutting sound that shakes the blues world awake. His youth in a warm, musical family laid the foundation for his love of blues and jazz. At a young age, he immersed himself in music, learned multiple instruments, and discovered the saxophone at age eleven — a moment that would shape his future.

From his first performances in local clubs, he knew how to move the audience with his powerful and emotional playing. His name quickly spread in the Antwerp music scene, and he became a regular fixture on stage. Collaborations followed with major names like The Electrophonics, Sebi Lee, Ian Siegal, Nigel Mack, and Solomon Burke. His style? Raw, swinging, unmistakable.

His musical journey led him in 2006 to The Electrophonics for their first album — followed by three more — and ultimately to his mentor and role model Big Jay McNeely.

In 2021, his life took a tragic turn with the loss of his daughter Loes. Out of grief, something powerful grew: a tribute album with support from musical friends such as Ian Siegal, Guy Forsyth, Tony, and Roby Lakatos. This also marked the beginning of a new chapter as a bandleader.

Barwalker Louis, geboren als André De Laat op 22 juli 1983 in Antwerpen, is een saxofonist met een herkenbare en scheurende sound die de blueswereld wakker schudt. Zijn jeugd in een warme, muzikale familie vormde de voedingsbodem voor zijn liefde voor blues en jazz. Al op jonge leeftijd dompelde hij zich onder in muziek, leerde meerdere instrumenten bespelen en ontdekte op zijn elfde de sax – een moment dat zijn toekomst zou bepalen.

Vanaf zijn eerste optredens in lokale clubs wist hij het publiek te raken met zijn krachtig en emotioneel spel. Zijn naam begon snel rond te gaan in de Antwerpse muziekscene en hij groeide uit tot een vaste waarde op de planken. Samenwerkingen volgden met grote namen als The Electrophonics, Sebi Lee, Ian Siegal, Nigel Mack en Solomon Burke. Zijn stijl? Rauw, swingend, onmiskenbaar.

Zijn muzikale pad bracht hem in 2006 bij The Electrophonics voor hun eerste album — met nog drie albums als vervolg — en uiteindelijk bij zijn mentor en voorbeeld Big Jay McNeely.

In 2021 kreeg zijn leven een tragische wending door het verlies van zijn dochter Loes. Uit verdriet groeide iets krachtigs: een eerbetoonalbum met steun van muzikale vrienden zoals Ian Siegal, Guy Forsyth, Tony en Roby Lakatos. Hiermee begon hij ook een nieuw hoofdstuk als bandleider.
