BLEND tot één enkele, synthetische klank of REACT als afzonderlijke stemmen en persoonlijkheden? Die spanning zit in elke jazzband, maar deze band gaat er berekend en experimenteel mee aan de slag.

De zes bandleden hebben zich verzameld rond Piergiorgio Pirro en zijn onderzoek naar jazz en spectrale muziek. Samen onderzoeken ze hoe modellen uit de spectrale muziek nieuwe invalshoeken kunnen bieden voor de gebruikelijke jazztheorie en -gewoonten.

Het resultaat is soms avontuurlijk, soms vertrouwd — met alle muzikanten die zich enerzijds verbinden met de fundamenten van de jazzpraktijk, en anderzijds spelen met spectrale structuren, microtonale harmonieën en eigenzinnige ritmes.

The six musicians gathered around Piergiorgio Pirro and his research about jazz and spectral music, and together they explore the ways in which models derived from spectral music offer alternatives to predominant jazz theories and habits.

The result is at times adventurous, at times familiar, with all the players engaging with the staples of jazz praxis on one side and with spectral structures, microtonal harmonies and quirky rhythms on the other.
