VI.BE

We are BLACKLIGHT , a cinematic rock band. Drawing on the different musical backgrounds of each of our 4 members, we move between intimacy and intensity. Melancholic textures with heavy edges.

Wim Gerits is the creating father behind each song, starting from zero with just his guitar and an idea, his strings provide the texture and basis for each BLACKLIGHT song. This Limburg native was previously active as the bass player for Vintage Blue, Underflow, Thempigs, Echo Rivals, The Eyes and Soundslave, but now he is laying each BLACKLIGHT song’s foundation with his newly found guitar skills.

At the front is Mercedes Mentens, whose musical roots lie outside the traditional rock circuit. She used to perform as an MC, taking to the stage alongside drum & bass DJs or impromptu UrgentFM sessions. She is active today as vocalist for various mixed electronic projects under the name STELLΛ. After Wim lays the foundation for each song, Mercedes creates the soundscape and vocals for each track.

Behind the kit we are very lucky to have Maarten Driesen, an experienced drummer with a lot of history in the Belgian rock scene through bands such as Awful Age, Underflow and 10 Rogue. He gives BLACKLIGHT its dynamic backbone, offering a heavier sound to our songs and bringing the heat!

Completing the rhythm section is Ron Wynants on bass. Based in Beringen, Ron spent years playing in various alternative rock bands throughout Belgium. BLACKLIGHT marks his return to the scene, pouring his earlier alternative-rock experience into a new musical chapter.

Our different histories form the foundation of BLACKLIGHT: electronic influences and distinctive female vocals meeting alternative rock and heavier instrumentation. We let each song determine how far it needs to drift or how hard it needs to hit, you can’t pidgeonhole us.

Raw, pure, messy, melodic, and heavy when we need to be .

We connect dreamy, fragile passages to powerful walls of sound.
