Bio

Ali Choupani Nejad (b. 1995, Isfahan) is an Iranian flutist, composer, and performer whose practice moves between classical performance, contemporary creation, and interdisciplinary projects. He studied at the Conservatory of Fine Arts in Isfahan and the University of Tehran, later continuing with an Advanced Master in Contemporary Music at KASK & Conservatorium.

Ali has performed as soloist and ensemble player with groups including the Tehran Symphony Orchestra, the Iranian Artists Forum Orchestra, and the University of Tehran Chamber Orchestra. He is also a founding member of the Daman Flute Quartet, a collective dedicated to exploring connections between Persian musical traditions and contemporary sound practices.

Alongside performing, Ali works actively as a composer and sound designer. His pieces have been presented at festivals such as the Asian American International Film Festival in New York, the Kyoto Film Festival, the Tehran Contemporary Music Festival, and Tadjrobe Festival. His projects often investigate memory, tradition, and experimentation, drawing on Middle Eastern modal structures while engaging with contemporary aesthetics and collaborative performance.

Teaching and sharing knowledge form another part of his practice. He has lectured and led workshops in Tehran, Isfahan, and Tabriz, focusing on flute techniques, improvisation, and participatory approaches to sound. Across these activities, Ali’s work reflects a commitment to building bridges between traditions and to creating spaces for listening, dialogue, and collective expression.
