The musicians chose a date as their name (Spanish for 30th February) as a nod to Colombia's local papayeras (small brass bands), which are generally named after a Saint's day. However, they deliberately chose a non-existent date as homage to their roots in Belgium, the home of surrealist artist René Magritte.

En empruntant le nom d’un jour, le groupe rend hommage aux papayeras (petites fanfares) municipales colombiennes, généralement nommées d’un jour saint. Pour rester belge, il fallait trouver une date digne du surréalisme qui caractérise si bien le pays de Magritte.

Salsa Belga Orquesta !

The band 30 de Febrero formed in summer 2012. It consists of a group of friends who met through the vibrant brass band scene in Brussels. With their shared passion for world music, they decided to form the group to develop their own personal style of salsa, which lies half way between traditional and Latino brass band music. Their repertoire, consisting mainly of original pieces, combines multiple influences from popular Latin American genres, including mambo, guaguanco, bomba and cumbia... to name but a few. Their sole aim is to create a thunderous sound that gets people up on their feet and dancing!

Formé durant l’été 2012, 30 de Febrero est avant tout un groupe d’amis s’étant rencontrés à travers la multitude de fanfares bruxelloises. Déjà tous passionnés de musique du monde, ils se sont réuni pour livrer leur vision personnelle de la salsa. A mi-chemin entre le brass band et le combo latino, ils mettent au point un répertoire essentiellement composés qui combine à sa manière différents rythmes populaires d’amérique latine. Le mambo, le guaguanco, la bomba, la cumbia, rien ne leur échappe. Avec un seul objectif : une ambiance du tonnerre pour faire danser l’assistance !
