Oberbaum is definitely a story about bridges — between Berlin, Brussels, and now Brooklyn, where Lucie Rezsöhazy went in search of the North American sounds that speak to her soul. I Should Be Softer was recorded and produced by Katie Von Schleicher (Frankie Cosmos, Cassandra Jenkins, Sam Evian) at Figure 8 Recording in Brooklyn in September 2024. Three months earlier, Rezsöhazy had sent her demos by email, in a surge of confidence (or recklessness, depending on how you see it). Von Schleicher replied enthusiastically right away: “Those chords!” The result of their collaboration? A joyful melancholy with a strong personality. The piano remains central, while also making room for melodically grounded basslines, fuzz guitars, and seventies-style synths, all wrapped in a soft, velvety production. And while the recording team is entirely American, Oberbaum also ventures into lyrics in French and German.

I Should Be Softer will be released on September 5th on Cleo Records. On stage, Oberbaum is joined by seasoned friends: Aurélie Muller (Blondy Brownie, River Into Lake) on bass, Clément Marion (Ada Oda, Paradoxant) on guitar and synth, and Carla Biber (Margaux Vranken, Satchel Hart) on drums.
