Arky Starch is a producer/bassplayer of roots dub reggae from Belgium. Starch blends old skool roots dub with modern, immersive sounds.

On stage, Arky delivers original tracks in powerful, uplifting dub performances designed for festival stages, sound systems, and dub corners.

Blending deep basslines, live instrumentation, improvisation, classic dub effects, and dynamic arrangements, each performance offers a distinctive, immersive experience.

Depending on the event, Arky performs either as a solo live dub act, optionally with a sidekick on horns, melodica,... or with an expanded live band featuring bass, brass, percussion, guest vocalists, and additional instrumentalists. Each configuration is tailored to the event's scale and atmosphere while maintaining the project's signature energy, authenticity, and sonic depth. Arky likes to switch it up and stay focused on entertaining.

His recent achievements include winning the Talent Hunt at Antwerp Reggae Festival 2025 and securing a Winner Play selection at Kortemark Congé 2026.

Inspired by the healing power of reggae and dub, Arky creates immersive live performances that unite audiences through deep grooves, positive vibrations, and spontaneous musical interaction. Using a hands-on live dub setup featuring a dub mixer, Space Echo-style delays, spring reverbs, and original productions, he reshapes his music in real time. Every performance becomes a unique sonic journey—deeply rooted in the tradition of classic Jamaican Sly & Robbie live dub while reimagined with a contemporary approach.

Available for festivals, clubs, sound system sessions, cultural events, and international collaborations.

Since 2020, Arky Starch, aka Ilyas Schellekens, has been releasing music and building his reputation in the reggae and dub scene, collaborating with artists including Melodican, Dimi Dumo, Omar Perry, Samora, Double Tiger, Serocee, David Corleone, Micky B, Dhazed, Zoe Mazah, and Razteria.

Along the way, he has been mentored by Canadian dub producer Dubmatix and is currently taking bass lessons with Don Chandler of RBC – Reggae Bass Club.

Arky writes, produces, mixes, and masters all his music independently through his label, Roar Like A Bass. He is currently preparing new releases and developing a live dub session, combining conscious messages with heavyweight dub production.

Arky Starch is een Belgische producer en bassist die eigen old-school rootsdub combineert met een moderne, immersieve sound. Met diepe basslines, live instrumentation, improvisatie en klassieke dub effects zoals delays en spring reverbs brengt hij zijn originele producties live tot leven in een krachtige, dynamische en dansbare dub performance. Arky werkt met een hands-on live dub setup en reshapt zijn muziek in realtime, waardoor elke show een unieke ervaring wordt.

Afhankelijk van de setting kan hij optreden als solo live dub act of met een extra muzikant op horns, melodica of andere instrumenten, of als uitgebreide live band met bass, brass, percussion, guest vocalists en extra instrumentalisten.

Zo kan de act flexibel worden aangepast aan festivals, clubs, soundsystems, culturele events en internationale samenwerkingen, zonder zijn kenmerkende energie en diepe sound te verliezen.

Sinds 2020 bouwt hij aan zijn eigen sound en reputatie binnen de reggae- en dubscene. Hij werkte samen met onder andere Omar Perry, Samora, Double Tiger, Serocee, Micky B, David Corleone, Melodican, Dimi Dumo, Ragga Yves, Dhazed en Razteria en brengt zijn muziek onafhankelijk uit via zijn label Roar Like A Bass, waarvoor hij zelf schrijft, produceert, mixt en mastert.

Zijn recente prestaties omvatten het winnen van de Talent Hunt op Antwerp Reggae Festival 2025 en een Winner Play selectie op Kortemark Congé 2026. Hij stond de afgelopen twee jaar 14 maal (o.a. op Gitannekesfoor, Kessel Zoo, Irie Vibes, A.R.F., …) op het podium en hoopt op meer kansen om te blijven groeien!

Geïnspireerd door de healing power van reggae en de live dubtraditie van onder meer Sly & Robbie, Lee Perry, Dub syndicate combineert Arky authentic roots, heavyweight bass en hedendaagse productie met een sterke focus op entertainment en spontane interactie met het publiek.

Arky Starch est un producteur et bassiste belge de roots dub reggae. Il mêle le roots dub old school à des sonorités modernes et immersives, avec des basslines profondes, de l’instrumentation live, de l’improvisation et les effets emblématiques du dub. Sur scène, il transforme ses productions en performances live puissantes, positives et dansantes, grâce à un setup de live dub permettant de remodeler la musique en temps réel. Selon l’événement, Arky se produit en solo, accompagné d’un musicien aux cuivres ou à la mélodica, ou avec un live band élargi comprenant basse, cuivres, percussions et chanteurs invités. Chaque formule s’adapte au lieu et au public, tout en conservant son énergie, son authenticité et sa profondeur sonore.

Depuis 2020, Arky Starch, alias Ilyas Schellekens, développe son propre univers musical via son label Roar Like A Bass, sur lequel il écrit, produit, mixe et masterise ses morceaux. Il a collaboré avec des artistes tels que Omar Perry, Samora, Double Tiger, Serocee, Micky B, David Corleone, Melodican et Razteria.
