Drumtomation

Bio

"Drumtomation" is the solo project of drummer Jasper Wellens (Finalist Roland V-Drums Contest 2011). While performing on lots of venues and doing some studio & demo recordings with various rock bands, Jasper also gave several solo performances at local parties by playing along with dance, house, techno, dubstep & drum 'n bass music on electronic drums. As a result, an idea of an electronic e-drum project was about to form steadily, and after several successful try-outs and being a finalist of the Roland V-drums Contest, the project 'Drumtomation' was officially born in 2012. In 2015 the project got a serious boost with some serious 1000-people venues, at Vooruit (Ghent) and Route du Soleil (Bordeaux, France) as most significant examples.

Concept

Drumtomation is a project where the drummer actually replaces the DJ: a drummer will play on an electronic drum set with a mix of electronic music genres like house, techno, dubstep and drum 'n bass. The mix and light show will be triggered live as well with a drum sampler. It is an original alternative to book at parties, events or festivals instead of a DJ or between DJ’s. This brings more audiovisual spectacle, in comparison to a DJ for example which can provide this to a lesser extent.

The word 'Drumtomation' is a contraction of the words 'drum' and 'automation'. The reference to the drums seems pretty Obvious and doesn't require any further explanation; 'automation', however, refers to an evolution in our postmodern society where employees are increasingly being replaced by machines in the workplace. This is what has happened here as well, where the dj and the light engineer are both replaced by a drum sampling device. Both drums as music and lightning are produced or controlled by the same person; meanwhile the dj and the light engineer are hereby fired and kindly thanked for their creative contributions ;-)
