EDUARDO ROVIRA: THE OTHER PIAZZOLLA? by SONICO
Astor Piazzolla is known as the inventor of modern tango. But is this true? Was Piazzolla the only figure of this movement, or were there others? SONICO celebrates the repertoire of the unjustly forgotten Argentinian composer Eduardo Rovira. Rovira is thought of as the “other Piazzolla” because of his fundamental role in the creation of the tango nuevo during the Buenos Aires avant-garde in the early 50’s.
In 2017/2018, SONICO opened Bozar’s season with “United Music of Brussels”, performed on Liégeois television during the festival “Jazz à Verviers,” participated in the “Een Beetje Belg” exhibition at the Red Starline Museum in Antwerp, played at the Brussels Jazz Festival in Flagey and performed as part of the European tour of Fernando Otero (winner of 3 Grammy awards).
SONICO will go on tour throughout Argentina in July and August 2018, in order to present our first cd: CD: EDUARDO ROVIRA: LA OTRA VANGUARDIA, which will be released in the fall of 2018. This tour will inclued a final concert at the “Festival Tango BA”.
Since January 2017, SONICO has the support of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles (Art et Vie).
